COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) – Texas A&M University President Katherine Banks has published its decisions on key recommendations that were made in the MGT Report. This report, created by MGT Consulting, was a comprehensive review of the main functional areas of the university.
The review focused on the organizational structure of central offices at the executive level and administrative units at the college level. After receiving feedback from thousands of students, faculty, staff and alumni, Banks made his decisions.
One of the first changes to be made will concern the office of the provost, the title of provost will be changed to “provost and director of studies”. Banks also accepted the recommendation to create a vice president for faculty affairs, a role that will report directly to Banks.
“Our faculty conduct groundbreaking research, teach large classes, and connect to the world with outstanding service, but are expected to perform an increasing number of administrative tasks as well. Too often, they are not recognized for their exceptional efforts and achievements, ”Banks said in the report.
Banks has already created a selection committee to find someone to fill the position.
In order to make Texas A&M a nationally leading institution, Banks said, the colleges of liberal arts, geosciences and sciences will be amalgamated to form the College of Arts and Sciences. The School of Visual and Performing Arts will also be established, with the cornerstone of the college being the visualization department.
Banks also plan to centralize facilities, finance / business administration, human resources, IT, marketing and communications. Although the exact steps have not yet been released, Banks said it was extremely important to include all university units in the process of centralization, including athletics.
To begin the process of implementing accepted recommendations, a Strategic Implementation Oversight Committee will be established and chaired by Greg Hartman, according to Banks.
