Wage scale:
$99,827 – $118,135 per year

This Teaching Specialist (Academic) position, with a primary focus on teaching and teaching-related activities, has an important role to play in the University’s achievement of its strategic plan, Making a Difference: l ‘Agenda 2025.

The Human Resource Management Lecturer will contribute to excellence in teaching and learning across all human resource management subjects at the College of Business Government and Law. The Lecturer will be responsible for making an independent contribution to teaching and teaching scholarship using innovations in teaching practice and technology to deliver excellence in teaching. The incumbent will contribute to the strengthening of the discipline by developing or updating contemporary and future topics focused on HRM, contribute to accreditation and external engagements.

The incumbent will contribute to teaching and learning in line with the College’s mission statement which is to embrace knowledge and practice to meet the challenges of our time, with a strategic focus on technology, health and social impact. Candidates with demonstrable experience or abilities in relation to new technologies and Industry 5.0 will have an advantage.

Main responsibilities of the position

This position is primarily concerned with teaching and related duties involving the creation, delivery and continuous improvement of the quality of university education. This includes (but is not limited to): direct instruction informed by approaches that enhance the student experience; curriculum design and revision; delivery innovation; advances in educational technology; and provide independent input into maintaining internal and external compliance and course accreditation. The position is also expected to make an independent contribution to high quality academic, professional and community service. The position does not include research contribution.

Education:

  • Create, coordinate and conduct inspiring teaching informed by approaches that enhance the student experience, with an emphasis on HRM topics, at all levels and modes, of the College.
  • Contribute to the planning and evaluation of these topics, assuming the role of topic coordinator as required.
  • Make an independent contribution to the review, renewal, development and design of curricula and courses that are attractive to existing and new cohorts of students and that nurture creativity and critical thinking skills.
  • To provide support, academic guidance and professional advice to students regarding their studies, professional development and career opportunities.
  • Use innovations and technologies effectively in teaching practice.

Academic, Professional and Service:

  • Participate in College administrative activities such as participation in committees and working groups and attendance at College meetings.
  • Maintain professional knowledge relevant to teaching in their discipline through scholarship and professional development.

  • Engage in activities in a relevant external professional area such as professional associations, conferences and workshops, and in a broader community context at local, national or international level.

  • Any other responsibilities related to the level of the position assigned by the Supervisor and/or the University.

Capabilities of the key position

  • Holder of a PhD or equivalent qualification in a relevant field.
  • Demonstrated evidence of making an independent contribution to teaching and teaching scholarship at the discipline level, including participation in subject coordination and curriculum development and teaching methodology at the tertiary level.
  • Experience or demonstrated ability to engage with e-learning platforms for innovations for teaching and learning purposes.
  • Demonstrated contribution to leading curriculum reviews and accreditation activities.
  • Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills, including demonstrated ability to build effective relationships with staff, students and industry.
  • Evidence of peer review of teaching and commitment to professional development in teaching.
  • Experience of engagement in a relevant external professional field and in a broader community context at local, national or international level
  • Consistently high student ratings of teaching with demonstrated improvements
  • Demonstrated evidence of improved student success, including improved retention and initiatives to facilitate employability
  • Proven cross-cultural communication skills, including the ability to liaise with and/or teach international students.
